Reports are coming in from all over the web, and frankly, most of them sound like spurious rumours. But this one is persistent. And if true, it’s a doozy. A major returning villain is said to be returning for the 8th season of Doctor Who, the first for Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi.
SPOILERS BELOW. IF YOU ARE A SPOILERPHOBE, READ ON NO FURTHER.
I’m totally serious, stop reading.
Now take this with a pinch of salt: the Master is widely rumoured to be returning this season. Not John Simm however. One name that’s come up frequently is that of Charles Dance. Known best these days as Tywin Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Now this was all just another rumour in the mill, until the other day attendees at a Newcastle Film and Comic Con panel tweeted that the Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy claimed that the Master was indeed returning and he knew the actor playing the roll, claiming he will be “very scary”.
Why would Sylvester McCoy give away such a secret? How would he even know in the first place? And seeing that the only proof of this exchange we have is a few tweets… Take this one with a pinch of salt.
Maybe Sylvester McCoy knows because HE’S THE ONE who’ll be playing the Master. That would be pretty amazing.

Hopefully they can get some more “old” villains such as The Rani and Omega… This is getting awfully repetitive as the years go by…
