For those of us who chose to watch the brilliant ABC special last night, Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe, we were treated to our first look at Avengers 2 concept art. Now, I’m not one that usually cares about concept art, and realistically this may be one of the only times I’ll ever blog about it, but I just thought this was so cool. Not only do we catch an artist rendered glimpse of the Hulkbuster Iron Man suit in action, but we finally get a good idea as to what we can expect from Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
As you can see, the Hulkbuster suit is of Stark design, and this particular scene will most likely have to do with the filming that occurred in Johannesburg earlier in the year.
Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff) is quite a mysterious character within the comic book world, and being the daughter of Magneto she’s got more than a few issues. Will be interesting seeing how they approach her in Age of Ultron, especially since they can’t make mention of Magneto in the film. I love the outfit, but I wonder if this is an early-act costume, seeing as how it doesn’t look like something an Avengers member would wear to battle. Her powers include probability manipulation, reality alteration and “chaos magic”. She will be played by Elizabeth Olsen.
Her brother, Quicksilver (Pietro Maximoff), is a more deviant character, and one of my favorites since I’ve been a kid. This looks more like proper fighting attire. He will be played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Further art included shows The Hulk and Black Widow back to back.
I think that these Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver look better than the ones in X-Men movie coming up, but hopefully they find a way to work in their past that makes sense and is a homage to their comic origins. I know it would be difficult as you mentioned that they can’t use Magneto, or even the word “mutant.” I’m thinking Hulk will end up leaving the Avengers as he does in the book and maybe that will set up a new movie based just on him,

I’m actually really hoping we get to see story arcs like Planet Hulk or World War Hulk in the movies. That’d be great honestly

Planet Hulk would be awesome. It would be like Gladiator but so much better if for no other reason than involving the Hulk

I can not wait… The Avengers was such an amazing movie… the whole cast just worked perfectly together… which is incredible with so many characters like that… it’ll be interesting to see how the new ones do…

Hulkbuster Armor has me intrigued. Does Hulk go nuts or does Ultron hijack a suit? My bet’s on the latter, if the concepts even made it into the final cut (But I so hope they did!!)

I’m intrigued also. I’m guessing it’s the former actually. Seems like a good way to bring Tony Stark back into the picture – to take care of Banner. And it has gone into the final cut actually. The scene was filmed in Johannesburg last month!

I hadn’t realized about it making it in the final cut. Just awesome!
I honestly don’t care how it goes, seeing all the armors was the best part of Ironman 3, give it a well deserved Oscar nom, and I want to see more!
