The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot to be Packaged in 50th Box Set?

That’s the word on the street anyway. According to the Sixth Doctor himself, Colin Baker, over at the Myth Makers convention panel this weekend, the 50th anniversary spoof will be making it’s way onto DVD at long last. Not only that, but it’ll feature on an as of yet-unspecified special set featuring the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith.

An unnamed BBC DVD spokesperson claims the set will likely include Night of the Doctor, Day of the Doctor, and Time of the Doctor (no word yet on Name of the Doctor, but here’s hoping it’s the full “____ of the Doctor” series). I’m terribly excited if this is true, personally. One of the best parts of the 50th celebrations in my opinion was the spoof film The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, and to finally get the chance to see it again on DVD (preferably Blu-Ray) will make my geek heart rejoice. And who know’s, I may even critique it for you all.

For those who don’t know, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot is a short film about the classic Doctors (Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, and to a lesser degree Paul McGann) trying to sneak their way into the 50th Anniversary episode, The Day of the Doctor. The epicly hilarious short was directed by Peter Davison, and featured an ensemble cast of fan favorites, including John Barrowman, Georgia Moffet, Peter Jackson, Sir Ian McKellen, Steven Moffat, and even the Tenth Doctor himself, David Tennant.

Have you seen The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot? What were your thoughts? Should ‘Name’ be featured on the box set? Would it be even better with An Adventure in Space and Time? Throw it all in!

  1. I hope it is on the DVD it is so funny. My favourite part was when they went into the TARDIS and they kept on saying that it wasn’t white.

  2. You have just made my day! I realize it’s just a rumor, but I shall hold it to be true, because I so want it to be so. I think FDR was *the* best part of the 50th celebration. While I love “The Day of the Doctor,” it had too many flaws to be the best; FDR was absolutely perfect. I already bought TDotD, but if this new set has FDR, it will be mine!!

Keeping fingers crossed for FDR to win the Hugo Award in August!

    1. Wow, I am so excited, I completely ignored your questions at the end of the article. The box set should include all of the 50th stuff – TDotD, FDR, Night, that short about defending Arcadia, and AAiSaT. “The Name of the Doctor” really did set up the 50th, but it’s not part of it, so either including it or not is fine by me.

  3. Great news – I loved The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot! As for the boxset, it would be great if An Adventure In Space and Time were included, but I’m not sure it would be; even though it was technically part of the anniversary celebrations, it feels like more of a separate entity.

    1. Presumably. But Name was as much a celebration of 50 years if not more than Day was, and seeing that Moffat was so clearly going for that “Trilogy of the Doctor” (+ Night) it wouldn’t be so out of left field. But personally I’d rather see An Adventure in Space and Time included than Name.

      1. Agreed, it would be great. (That’s why I said “unfortunately”). The problem is that each season is funded separately and the income is tracked separately, so it causes problems if they’re split and recombined. That’s why things like Futurama sell box-sets in production seasons, not broadcast seasons and why JMS said that he had to arrange for Babylon 5 Season 5 to “buy” Sleeping in Light from Season 4.
