Preorder Doctor Who Series 8 + 3 New Twelfth Doctor Novels

As the hype machine builds for another season of Doctor Who, so shall my posting habits on the topic increase. That’s both a heads up to fans of the series and a warning to those who follow me and don’t care about the series. For that reason I’ve decided to combine two posts into one this time around so as not to blow up your feeds further.

The actual DVD and BluRay releases for the upcoming 8th series, starring Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, have become available online, and thus I thought I’d share a link. Who knows, the BBC and/or Amazon may muck it up again and release the box sets early, similarly to my experience with series 7, part 2. But I doubt they’d let that happen again. Below are the preorder links to both the DVD and the Bluray versions of the Doctor Who Series 8 box set.

Preorder 3 New Twelfth Doctor Novels: Silhouette, The Blood Cell, and The Crawling Terror
These three novels will without fail be completely missable adventures that impact nothing within the show, and will entirely be meant as off-screen side adventures. That being said, I have read a few of the Eleventh Doctor’s off-screen adventures in the past and they’re extremely well done YA novels that capture the essence of the story and characters, and often I feel they should have been episodes themselves. Regardless, the plot synopsis for these three have been released, and are available for preorder at a very realistic price. The three stories, Silhouette, The Blood Cell, and The Crawling Terror are respectively written by Justin Richards, James Goss and Mike Tucker, and are due for release on September 11, 2014.

“Vastra and Strax and Jenny? Oh no, we don’t need to bother them. Trust me.”
Marlowe Hapworth is found dead in his locked study, killed by an unknown assailant. This is a case for the Great Detective, Madame Vastra.
Rick Bellamy, bare-knuckle boxer, has the life drawn out of him by a figure dressed as an undertaker. This angers Strax the Sontaran.
The Carnival of Curiosities, a collection of bizarre and fascinating sideshows and performers. This is where Jenny Flint looks for answers.
How are these things connected? And what does Orestes Milton, rich industrialist, have to do with it all? As the Doctor and Clara joint the hunt for the truth they find themselves thrust into a world where nothing and no one are what they seem.

“Release the Doctor – or the killing will start.”
An asteroid in the furthest reaches of space – the most secure prison for the most dangerous of criminals. The Governor is responsible for the cruellest murderers. So he’s not impressed by the arrival of the man they’re calling the most dangerous criminal in the quadrant. Or, as he prefers to be known, the Doctor.
But when the new prisoner immediately sets about trying to escape, and keeps trying, the Governor sets out to find out why.
Who is the Doctor and what’s he really doing here? And who is the young woman who comes every day to visit him, only to be turned away by the guards?
When the killing finally starts, the Governor begins to get his answers…

“Well, I doubt you’ll ever see a bigger insect.”
Gabby Nichols is putting her son to bed when she hears her daughter cry out. ‘Mummy there’s a daddy longlegs in my room!’ Then the screaming starts… Kevin Alperton is on his way to school when he is attacked by a mosquito. A big one. Then things get dangerous.
But it isn’t the dead man cocooned inside a huge mass of web that worries the Doctor. It isn’t the swarming, mutated insects that make him nervous.
With the village cut off from the outside world, and the insects becoming more and more dangerous, the Doctor knows that unless he can decode the strange symbols engraved on an ancient stone circle, and unravel a mystery dating back to the Second World War, no one is safe.

  1. What is really annoying is that now that the classic series dvd releases have just about run their course, 2 of the last 3 released were both recently discovered “lost” titles that were rushed out no doubt to ca$h in on the 50th anniversary with NO extras on the discs, no commentary no nothing. To be honest, the main reason I ended up buying titles such as the atrocious Paradise Towers were for their only re-deeming feature of a whole host of sometimes very good extras. Of the two titles they have now released with nothing (Enemy of the World & one of the most anticipated titles in Who folklore The Web of Fear they missed a big trick. At least a documentary on the chap who tracked down the film reels would have been well worth watching and a tip of the hat to him. Unless they have other bits and pieces still to come out as the rumour mill desperately wishes to think a lot of us old fart fans are having to hold off buying these last 2 just in case they release a special edition later in the year packed with extras so as not to get fleeced again by the bad old Beeb.

    1. Yeah, I’ve been holding off on those two DVDs myself for that very reason. The way I see it, if the BBC can get you to buy Web of Fear/Enemy of the World once they figure you’re the kind of person that will buy it again. It’s pretty true. How many of us bought the downloads for $10 a pop on iTunes and later bought the DVDs for completionists sake. I’ll certainly buy the DVDs once it becomes worth it for me.

    2. Oh you know the Beeb is going to double dip on the recently recovered stories. And I will buy them again just to have the extras. Just let them go ahead and take my money!
