Attack on Titan Season 2 in Production

Excellent news for fans of the anime genre – the critically acclaimed series Attack on Titan, based on the manga by Hajime Isayama, is confirmed to have started its production process for the show’s second season last month. After the first season ended over a year ago, anticipation for the show’s second season have been wild. Along with fellow anime Sword Art Online and the booming popularity of streaming service Crunchyroll, Attack on Titan is a strong factor in the rise of anime popularity in the West. And rightly so – it’s just so good.

In a nutshell, Attack on Titan is the story of a post-post-apocalyptic world, where humanity has rebuilt their cities behind walls to impede the threat of the giant man-eating Titans, and how a special task force (in which the main protagonists enlist) attempts to defeat them – a seemingly impossible task.

Although the second series is some ways off we have a few things we can look forward to in the interim. First off, announced many moons ago, two films will be made, merging together the many episodes of season one. The first film entitled “Attack on Titan Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow” is out November 22nd, and comprises episodes 1-13 of the first season. The second film, “Attack on Titan Part 2: Wings of Freedom” comes out next year, and will pull together the rest.

Two OVA episodes (original video animation) based on the prequel manga series “Attack on Titan: No Regrets” are also to be released to help tide us over. These two OVAs will coincide with the drop of the regular manga, volumes 15 and 16 on December 9th this year and April 9th next year.

We shouldn’t expect the second season to air anytime before then, but stranger things have happened. What do you think of the news? Are you as excited as I am? Please leave your comments below. Would love to hear you thoughts. Here is my review of Attack on Titan season 1, and here are the Top 20 Most Anticipated Anime of Fall 2014 as voted by Japanese fans.

  1. YESSSSSSS!! I can’t wait! One month I got a “Titan” themed LootCrate and had no idea what this anime was. Then I watched an epiode…next thing I know, I finished the season and have been waiting for some sign of it continuing.

  2. I am happy that Attack on Titan is getting coverage I hear its a great storied anime as many nowadays lack plot. I have not watched it as of it. I do miss some of the different kinds of anime that also featured really remarkable female protagonists like Card Captor Sakura and more mature but redemptive characters like Rurouni Kenshin. I like Attack on Titan’s premise which I read I do hope it is a big plot twisty story because post -apocalyptic anime’s new world diagnostic is done so much I hope this one is different. What I really miss is the integrity of some human characters like Makoto Kusanagi from Ghost in The Shell movie the new series Arise may follow designs and some story segments of that old movie but it lacks the engaging characters that incarnation of Makoto had. I think the uniqueness and consideration of anime storylines are being a bit repleted. Because there was a time even some harem themed animes like Fushigi Yuugi had such intrinsic storytelling that you cannot even know it had some harem themes so yeah I miss anime production like that.
