Peter Jackson’s third and final Hobbit film arrives next month, and will likely (and hopefully) be the last of Jackson’s Tolkien adaptions. Not that I don’t like them. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is my all-time favorite movie series. But the Hobbit films have been one disappointment after another in my eyes. Here’s hoping this last entry, The Battle of the Five Armies, will end on a strong note. Check out the latest trailer.
Im trying to read the hobbit before this comes out

I’d recommend it. It’s certainly a classic.

Have you ever tracked down and read the first edition? It’s different… As is the draft preceding it.
I am sure the gist of them is on a tolkien.obsessive.fan site somewhere if you haven’t. 🙂

I haven’t. Well. That is, I didn’t realize their was one. Which I guess means I could’ve read the original. Read the Hobbit probably a little over a decade ago at this point.

the substantial changes are to the nature of elves / goblins and to … gollum. With him, and with the nature of our “hero”…
any more would be spoilery.

Hmm. I’ll have to look into it.
