Rooster Teeth Animator, Monty Oum Dies at Age 33

Monty Oum is best known for his web-based animated series with Rooster Teeth, namely RWBY and Red vs. Blue. It is with a heavy heart I spread the word of his passing. Eleven days ago he suffered a severe allergic reaction during a surgical procedure, throwing him into a coma. He passed away on the 31st of January.

I’m very grateful to Monty for his contribution to the field as both an artist and a creator. RWBY is one of my favorite animated series of all time. I think the creativity of the world Monty created, and the level of sophistication and depth within the plot and characters, is to be commended. I hold the series as quite inspirational. I’ve mentioned it once or twice on the blog. Please check it out if you can.

It’s a shame he didn’t get to finish the series, or at least see it where it needed to be to live on without him. But it was his show. His baby. And although I don’t know if the show will go on, it just wouldn’t be the same. But even more of a shame is that he didn’t get to live even half a full life, dying so young, and under such unexpected circumstances.

My condolences to his family. How fragile life can be.
