Tons of New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Footage in International Trailer

And here you probably thought we weren’t getting any more footage! I sure didn’t. I forgot about that whole international trailer thing. This one arrives via Japan, but it’ll likely be the same trailer used in most international markets. Take a look.

Although not nearly as epic as the previous trailer, there is a ton of new footage, and dialogue. We have Rey confronting Kylo Ren. We also have her meeting Finn in the Millenium Falcon. And also meeting BB-8. And talking about how she is used to waiting for her family! Rey steals the show in this trailer!

We also get an excellent new pan of what appears to be the Resistance base, with General Organa, Poe Dameron, C-3PO, and actor Ken Leung.

  1. Well I guess we should’ve known not to trust Abrams. Especially since the international poster was a reasonable sign of an international trailer. It’s surprising that the previous trailer’s only domestic. And that this was premièred through Disney’s Japanese channel, rather than Star Wars’. But on a visual level, it’s the best one so far and definitely more ambitious than the way George Lucas directs.
The first teaser was a new generation’s introduction to Finn, BB-8, Rey, Poe and Kylo; the second teaser was the old generation’s reunion with Luke, Anakin, R2-D2, Leia, Han and Chewbacca; the first trailer was the uniting of those generations as both were introduced to the story of Han and Kylo’s inevitable reunion; and this international trailer is really more about the art of what Star Wars can be that could be the persuading argument to those not so far convinced. Personally, I suspect there’s still a familial relationship between Rey and Kylo – cousins maybe? Though Peter Mayhew’s description of Daisy Ridley as “stiff” does seem to be accurate, especially when she says “I’m Rey”, though it’s probably out of context. Hopefully they’ll be a TV spot where BB-8 and R2-D2 meet each other, like at the Star Wars Celebration. It doesn’t seem coincidental that as soon as Rey says “my family”, she’s seen with Finn. After all, Luke and Leia didn’t realise they were family until they’d almost sealed the deal. And something tells me Leia will be the one watching over the developing story as a strategist…
