Okay, you’ve got to check out the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
First thought? Mon Mothma was done superbly well. Donnie Yen’s character looks like a blind martial artist, which is going to be insane. Is he Force sensitive? And the whole era looks so perfect. Excellent. Jyn Erso, as played by Felicity Jones looks like she’s going to be an angsty youth, reeled in by whomever Forest Whitaker is playing. Is that Vader kneeling in front of the Imperial Guards, or someone entirely new? Who is that dapper Imperial played by Ben Mendelsohn? So many questions!
What did you guys think? Let me know in the comments below.
Really looking forward to this, not as much as TFA, but it’s about time we break the book silence on the Star Wars mythos. Even after episodes VII-IX, there is so much more to expand on from the books. Just as long as they keep it in the quality and not quantity zone, I’m good.

Well the books are no longer considered canon, unfortunately. Unless you’re not referring to the expanded universe. A new continuity of books was established in 2013.

Sure, just note that in rewriting things, ANYTHING can be CANON, so long as it doesn’t conflict with characters and occurrences. Almost all of the books set in the future following episode VI will no longer be observed. But we could always see characters reimagined or setting brought to reality from those books. There is a LOT of material to work with.

That’s the primary reason they chose to start from scratch. They didn’t want to worry about the burden of conforming to the overwhelmingly large number of storylines and such. Only the films became canon. That said, most of the Lucasfilm team was heavily involved in the EU, so small things find their way back to canonicity. But that said, it looks like most of the new material is highly divergent from the old EU.

It’s kinda like, making a path through a maze with a bulldozer! (Insert mouse driver for additional cuteness 🙂

Haha at the mouse joke!

It’s lit, fam. The feel looks appropriately subdued and quieter than the main SW stories; yet it has its own unique flavor and crackles with another different kind of hardcore, war-movie energy than the fun fantastical whimsy of TFA, ANH and others. I am super, SUPER appreciative that women are leading the way in this universe as the central characters. Also, Donnie Yen?! Sign me up, buttercup!

If Disney ever goes through my comments section, I imagine them coming across this one saying “One Sabina Felice, signing up as ‘Buttercup.’ Referred by Donnie Yen… Check. Next.” Hahaha

Wasn’t a huge fan of ‘TFA’ but this looks like it could be good.
My two things.
Number one is that we don’t see much of them as a team, now I’m hoping that’s because all of that will be in there but later in the movie in cool, possibly spoiler~y moments so they are avoiding showing that in the trailer.
Number two, please tell me that’s Kyle Katarn at the twenty six second mark. The clothes, the attitude, the mission. Come on I know we threw out all of the EU but you cans lip things back in in the appropriate places right?

Oh wow, you may be on to something. Taken from Wookieepedia: “Often paired with fellow Rebel agent and smuggler Jan Ors, he performed many covert missions for the Rebel Alliance…” Jan Ors is VERY similar to Jyn Erso.

That AT-AT battle against the Rebel Alliance though. That was my “The Force Awakens – Millennium Falcon” moment.

Haha! Nice. That does look pretty stellar.

Yay! The Death Star is back! When was the last time we saw one of those? 🙂 Other than that, I’m excited to watch this.

Well this is the original Death Star, before Luke blew it up. So that’s pretty cool!

I know. I would’ve been more enthusiastic about it if it weren’t for Starkiller Base, though. The Force Awakens was great, don’t get me wrong, but…

I didn’t mind Starkiller Base, but that’s a post for another day lol.

This shall be interesting. It feels different with the new characters but the story looks fun to watch. I guess December will be busy again.

Super excited for the film! This one Star Wars film per year is going to be a fun ride.

When it was announced, I was worried. Now I’m not sure if it’ll be enough to date the fandom!

I hadn’t really paid much attention to this movie even with all the episode 7 hype at the end of last year but just watching this trailer made me instantly ready to see it. I didn’t know Donnie Yen was in it but when I realized that was him, I got even more excited because I’ve been getting in to watching his films recently and really like his stuff.

Donnie Yen might be my favorite character in this so far, just because.

Reblogged this on Geeking Out about It and commented:
Oh, finally! I’m cautiously excited, (mostly by the appearance of Forrest Whittaker and Donnie Yen, tho’.) Well, I like the trailer!
