Though no official word has yet been made about finding any extant clips for the popular serial which first aired on November 5th, 1966, The Power of the Daleks was announced to be getting its first official reanimation. For the first time in exactly 50 years, fans will get to relive the exciting first story of the Second Doctor, Patrick Troughton’s, run! The six half hour episodes will feature the regeneration of William Hartnell into Patrick Troughton, while “companions Polly and Ben do battle with the Daleks on the planet Vulcan” (how’s that for a Star Trek 50th anniversary tie-in).
This is extremely exciting for Doctor Who fans as this opens up the doors for other classic stories that have gone missing to be brought back with the animation treatment – with or without extant footage being newly discovered.
I’m so EXCITED!!! Two of my favorite things: Dr. Who, and Animation!!!

I had all but given up on further animations. It sure seemed like they were done with them. I also like that BBC America is in on this and will even be airing the episodes here in the US in November! I would love to see more classic Who on BBC America.

great news but still no explanation why Web of Fear with 5 of 6 complete episodes didn’t get the final part animated before it was released

Yeah, that was a bizarre choice. Perhaps they didn’t have time to push it out before the 50th anniversary? Or perhaps they’re holding off long enough so that fans can pay twice…

Very excited about the animated version of The Power of the Daleks. Its a great story to listen to on audio, so it will be great to experience this story in animated form. Let’s hope it pave the way for more missing classic Dr Who stories to be animated.
